Sane Beta: A New Blogging Platform for the Playful
We're building an integrated web for ideas — a synthesis of what we think the internet should feel like.
Last week we started soft launching Sane beta. For the past year, our little team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and it feels great to start sharing this with all of you. To date, on Sane New World, we’ve been sharing essays and conversations about the pursuit of ideas, creativity, and playful thinking. I’m excited to slowly start connecting the dots between these ideas and what we’ve been building behind the scenes. World, meet Sane! Sane, meet world!
A huge thank you to all of our alpha testers for your invaluable feedback and dedication to our vision.
We are building an integrated web for ideas — a synthesis of what we think the internet should feel like — a social playground for creativity and self-expression. We believe the tools we use should facilitate creativity, and the internet should allow for ideas to evolve, encouraging curiosity and context. While we can’t wait to share more about our vision in the coming months, our focus today is on how the spatial canvas is one step toward this goal.
To put it in simple terms, Sane is a new blogging platform, powered by a spatial interface. We see the chronological feed as being restrictive and not catering toward sharing many types of media at once, let alone showing connections between them. Current alternatives for publishing online require creators to have a rigorous publishing schedule, while being bound to a single medium. This makes the threshold for publishing knowledge, sharing ideas, and ultimately self-expression unnecessarily high.
Sharing ideas visually on a spatial canvas is much more flexible. The canvas gives users the freedom to show the evolution of their ideas over time without the pressure to publish finished, edited thoughts with a set structure. The multimedia interface doesn’t discriminate against any specific type of media — allowing users to seamlessly self-express by mixing video, image, text, links, and more. On Sane, ideas are the atomic unit, no matter the format.
Sane is a place to collect inspiration, connect thoughts and build digital gardens. In just a few minutes, you can gather links, papers, images, quotes, and notes on any topic of your interest. With the autonomy to visually organise and connect ideas to one another, you can show not just what you think, but also how you think. It is a way to think visually while sharing your ideas and interests with others — be it in the form of inspiring quotes, beautiful things you’ve read this year, or a personal research project.
We want Sane to make you feel like your most creative, expressive self. A place for working with the garage door open: showing people the weirdness, the half-baked thoughts, the raw stuff — that’s where the magic lies. We can’t wait to see what variants of creativity get unleashed here.
We’re a small team with a big big vision, and good things take time. While this is a major step forward, we’re still early and not quite ready for big crowds yet. This is why we’re rolling out Sane incrementally. If you are on our waitlist and didn’t yet received an invite, not to worry — it’s very coming soon. 💖
